The Scout Association is the largest co-educational youth movement in the UK, Scouting provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for 400,000 young people.
Scouting gives young people the opportunity to learn by doing, as part of a balanced programme. Our programme is a continuous progression of training, activities and awards that covers everything young people do in Scouting from the age of 6 to 25.
Scouting in the UK is growing! At the last count, there were over 51,000 young people on our waiting lists unable to join simply because we don’t have enough adult volunteers. Some of the reasons for volunteering:
During the year there are a number of opportunities for adult members to meet together socially. These often include a chance to take part in many of the adventurous activities undertaken by the youth membership such as sailing, kayaking, archery and air rifle shooting.
Volunteering is very flexible, from an hour a week to an hour every 6 months. There are many ways you can help, here are just a few:
“One of my big missions is to encourage people across the UK who have the time, enthusiasm and ability, whatever it is, to put something back into their communities. It’s about a lot of people doing a little.
“I don’t want to hear any more about kids who can’t join because of a lack of leaders. We’ve got a brilliant, talented nation and I want some of that talent to be used to support young people.”
