Coronavirus (COVID-19) update #2

Good morning,

Last night we received an announcement from the UK Chief Commissioner of The Scouts, instructing that as of Tuesday 17th March 2020, all face to face Scouting activities are to be suspended until further notice.

Whilst we appreciate this decision will be disappointing for our youth members, it has been made in the best interests of the health and wellbeing of them, our volunteers, our families and the wider community following the Government’s latest statement on Monday evening.

I can confirm the following events have been cancelled/postponed: Costessey Hike, Scouts Shooting Competition, Cubs on Water, Scouts WAM Camp, St George’s Fun Day and the Beaver District Camp.

There are financial implications with this announcement (subscriptions, event deposits etc.) so please bear with us as we work on what this means in practice. Please remember that we are all volunteers doing our best in uncharted waters, with all the same concerns and issues at home as you.

HQ have announced plans to do some home Scouting so our members can continue working towards badges. They are also talking to Government about what Scouts may be able to do to support those most in need during this crisis. More information on both of these elements are expected to follow in due course.
