Not only the Patron Saint of England, our Founder, Robert Baden-Powell, chose St George to be the Patron Saint of Scouting.
He felt the qualities shown by St George, those of selflessness, courage, bravery, overcoming challenges and helping others perfectly complemented our Scout values of integrity, respect, care, belief and co-operation – and he was right!
It’s traditional for us to celebrate our Patron Saint, and this year our Scouts decided to create and star in a play telling St George’s heroic story.
To join in the celebration, our Cub Scouts also acted out a narrated telling of the story and our Beaver Scouts made delicious traditionally English scones for the audience to enjoy along with scene-stealing cameos as farmyard animals during the Scouts’ play.
In between the plays we presented Assistant Scout Leaders John Thompson with his Wood Badge and Tim Fancy with his much deserved 10 Years’ Good Service Award. Afterwards, our members and their parents tried their hands at firelighting, a St George fact hunt, traditional English village fete games and even a dragon piñata.
